You know how you become a proper mental health advocate? You actually need to give a fuck about people. In real life.
I recently lost someone to suicide so I take mental health awareness seriously.
I think it’s great that people are trying to make a difference and spread awareness relating to mental health. We are all struggling and we need people who actually take the time to be with others through the pain.
However, if you’re a person who goes around judging, criticising and gossiping about other people, then you should know, you’re one of the reasons why people struggle with mental health in the first place.
Before you start a campaign trying to act like you give a fuck about mental health, how about you go speak to that family member you’ve turned your back on for a decade. Go sit down, have a conversation, forgive them, love them – so they can stop ruining everyone else’s lives due to the lack of love from their family – then get back to your mental health events.
It’s actually offensive to the people who actually care and have actually made sacrifices to ensure your family member has had a second, third, tenth, hundredth chance in life.
People really have some audacity to start advocating for mental health awareness when they have people in their own household who have been battling depression for years; yet you haven’t taken a moment in years to check to see if they’re ok.
Run your events but don’t do it in the name of mental health to make yourself feel better about your lack of empathy or love. Stop being a selfish, entitled narcissist and go make a real fucking change.
