Because my parents do. And I love my parents.
I believe in God, I just don’t feel the need to go to church every Sunday to prove myself to other humans. My relationship between God and I is between God and I, and everyone else should be so focused on their own relationship with God/ the divine, rather than sharing their two cents on what I should believe.
I have close friends of all different races, religions, beliefs, values and traditions.
I look at people for who they are, not what they believe or value, but the person they are.
I couldn’t care less how similar or different their beliefs and opinions are to my own. It is definitely not my job to convince them to believe what I believe – it would actually be wrong of me to do that.
Of course I’ll share my beliefs and listen to what theirs are. Staying open-minded opens you up to a whole new version of the world you may not realise existed… but it’s important to have the ability to listen without commenting on how “right” or “wrong” you think it is, especially when we are discussing beliefs.
I have my own reasons for not being religion’s number one fan. I believe it has caused more of a divide between the human race than anything else. I don’t believe I need to go to church once a week to prove to God that I’m a good person. I know I’m a good person and even when I fall short, I do my best to right my wrongs. I’m not perfect, but my heart is good.
I don’t need to sit for an hour a week listening to the bible when I’ve already lived through a lot of what the bible talks about, in my own way.
I embody empathy and compassion. I am incredibly understanding. These qualities have made me susceptible to all the pain and hardships people go through in the world, both individually and on a collective level – so at times, I appear angry and frustrated more than calm or sweet.
The anger and frustration is because of the empathy and compassion I have. Do you know how exhausting it is to live in a world where you understand people yet hardly anyone understands you?
But anyway…
It’s a full moon tonight, which falls in the sign of Libra.
So it’s a perfect opportunity to discuss this.
You don’t need to be the “same” anything or believe in the same things in order to still be able to have a connection or relationship with anyone. People are human – treat them as such. Their beliefs are just as real to them as yours are to you.
Happy Full Moon. Happy Easter.
